The Ontario Ministry of Labour reports that private sector collective agreement settlements in 2010 were a little higher than public sector settlements, with settlements seeing an average annual wage increase of 2.1% in the private sector versus 1.9% in the public sector. In Ontario, consumer prices rose 3.3% in 2010.
For the month of January 2011, the public sector settlements were somewhat higher than the private sector settlements, 2.0% versus 1.8%, according to Collective Bargaining Highlights January 2011.
But the number of members covered by the private sector settlements was small (6 settlements covering 2,022 members), so it may not be a sign of any trend.
